New Microblogging Mirror Site - The story so far and BDSMLR vs newTumbl

For those who just want to cut to the chase, I have a new trial mirrorblog running at putyoutosleepnowzzz.newtumbl.com

After the great Tumblr purge of 2018, I went on a hunt to decide where to take my page. As it happened, I would have had to move anyway because (fortunately) AFTER I had backed up the page, Alex Pretino, the male (I'll say that again - MALE) owner of Opander had my page taken down for breach of copyright. Eventually I settled on WIX as it was offshore (so hard to take my site down) and gave me total editorial control. The downside was that the size of the posts made downloading slow. In the meantime a whole host of Tumblr clones became available, and my "patients" missed the convenience of a microblogging site.

BDSMLR was in its infancy and having teething troubles, so I set up a microblog on its sister-site reblogme.com because it was already up-and-running, and with low traffic it had no speed issues, and I posted up the whole of my former Tumblr blog on it over a couple of months.

In 2020 my personal life got busy and I let both Wix and Reblogme go dormant. When I had more time I returned to find that Reblogme had been shut down without warning, taking two months of fervent posting with it!! By this time BDSMLR had become the #1 adult Tubmblr alternative, so I rekindled my dormant blog on there BUT NOW that site has run into all manner of technical issues, hopefully/maybe temporary.

The problem is that BDSMLR has become a victim of its own success - it is run by enthusiastic amateurs using hired servers and is creaking under the weight of its growing audience. After my experience with Reblogme, I decided to look around elsewhere. In the previous two years there have been some firm Tumblr alternatives emerging.

I finally settled on newTumbl. It's not as user-friendly as BDSMLR, but it is much more stable, flexible and reliable as a platform, with no serious bugs in the programming. There is in theory no limit to the size of gif you can upload. Unlike Tumblr and BDSMLR, your posts are displayed as a tableau, so you can see them all at once. Click on the EXPAND button and you can see all the pics in that post, with captions and tags at the end. Click on the first pic and then you can watch the pics in sequence, ideal for the picture stories I post.

But it's not perfect - the gifs require more clicks and are slow to upload to the server and download to your screen - not as slow as Wix, but slow enough to be annoying. The pics are original size and not blown up, and it takes time to figure out how to see what you want - it lacks the instant nature of BDSMLR. As a webmaster, it's not as flexible at posting pics to multiple blogs.

If BDSMLR was stable and reliable, and I'd say it was the better platform, but unfortunately it isn't! - at least not right now. While their techies are busy trying to resolve the recent plethora of issues, I will build up the newTumbl page since my life has suddenly gone quiet again - for now!
