Oops! Sally has come out of her sedation much quicker than we expected! She's confused and frightened and threatening to become hysterical! We hadn't put any lines in yet, so the only thing we could do was a rapid mask induction - turning the vaporizer to max and holding the mask on her face.
Unfortunately the anesthetic we were planning to use is Desflurane - great for deep and stable anesthesia but pungent and not pleasant to inhale. However her panic, accelerated breathing and heart rate made her absorb the anesthetic very quickly...
Shit! She's waking up!
Sally is shocked and frightened. Well you would be. There you were having a coffee with your new friends, then next thing you know you wake up naked on an operating table with your two "friends" dressed in scrubs looking down at you!
